Covering an area of approximately 42sq miles, the Royal Forest of Dean is one of the few surviving ancient woodland of England. Located on the boarder of Wales and England the forest is located in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) overlooking the Wye Valley, Gloucestershire and Herefordshire. The forest is populated with various species of tree including Oak, Beech and Conifers, giving plenty of opportunities to incorporate these into endless compositions. For the wildlife lovers the forest is home to large populations of Wild Boar and Fallow Deer along with Nightjar’s, Hawfinches, Lesser Spotted Woodpeckers, Wood Warblers and Redstarts.
Transport is provided to each location during the workshop but there will be a moderate level of exertion over uneven and often slippery terrain to reach the various locations. The weather in this part of the world can also be unpredictable. So it is recommended that you bring suitable footwear along with clothing that is appropriate to the weather conditions. We often find that changeable weather can be advantageous for landscape photography, so please don’t be afraid of getting a bit wet! We do keep an eye on the weather though and if there are any Amber or Red weather warnings then we will relocate for your safety and comfort.
