Do I need to be an expert photographer?

The simple answer is no. As long as you have a basic understanding of photography and how to operate your camera (change shutter speed, aperture and ISO) you can take enjoyment from one of our experiences or workshops. One of our professional photographers will always be on hand to give you any guidance and support if needed.

What level of fitness do I need?

Most of our experiences will require you to have a basic level of fitness due to the unevenness of the terrain and sometimes the remoteness of the locations we visit. There can often be slippery surfaces such as ice or snow, wet tree roots or muddy foot paths which can cause issues for those with limited mobility, visual issues and/or balance issues. We generally recommend that you be able to walk unaided for at least few miles over uneven terrain or broken ground. If in doubt, drop us an email to contact@longitudetours.com and we can have a chat.

We use a difficulty scale that suggest the potential level of exertion and/or mobility required during the tour, and as a guide to help you assess if an experience is suitable for you:

Level 1 - Relatively flat with some uneven surfaces. Approximately 1km of walking
Level 2 - Uneven terrain with slight elevation changes. Approximately 5km of walking
Level 3 - Uneven/slippery/scramble terrain, with steep elevation changes. Approximately 5-10km of walking
Level 4 - Uneven/slippery/scramble terrain, with steep elevation changes and high altitude. Approximately 5-10km of walking

What happens in bad weather?

We have learned over the years that inclement weather can often lead to some of the best landscape photography conditions. That being said, your safety is our number one priority on all of our experiences, and if the weather is simply too dangerous in a particular location then we will do our very best to get you into a different location. We are constantly checking weather forecasts for the areas we plan to visit but sometime even these can catch us out. Therefor we always recommend that you bring suitable clothing and protection for you camera equipment. We would only cancel/rearrange if there is a Met Office issued severe weather warning.

What’s included with your experiences?

On each experience page you will see a list of what is and isn’t included at the bottom of the page. But generally each experience will include the following:

  • Accommodation for the duration of residential experiences
  • Transport to and from locations if stated.
  • Support and guidance from a professional photographer for the duration of the tour
  • Exclusive discounts for Vanguard Photo UK and Kase Filters

What’s not included?

Again, a list of exclusion can be found at the bottom of each experience page. Some will include more than others but below is a list of some of the things are not included (this list in not exhaustive):

  • Transport before and after the experience
  • Cost of visas
  • Vaccinations
  • Tips for porters, guides and other staff
  • Bar bills
  • Food and drinks (other than what is specified)
  • Hotel refreshments
  • Laundry
  • Telephone calls
  • Souvenirs
  • Entrance charges to some historical sites
  • Certain national park and peak fees (unless stated)
  • Travel and equipment insurance
  • Personal clothing and equipment
  • Foreign airport taxes
  • Excess baggage charges

What happens if the minimum number isn’t met?

If the minimum number of guests to operate an experience isn’t met you will have the choice of receiving a full refund of all monies paid or to transfer onto another single experience of equal or greater cost.

Do I need insurance?

Absolutely, yes! Even though we are fully insured for the type of business we operate, you should always take out adequate insurance that covers you for all eventualities. This includes Travel Insurance that covers cancellations and delays, plus we recommend that you have adequate insurance cover for any photography equipment you bring with you. Some of the locations we visit can be very harsh in adverse weather and these conditions can cause damage to camera gear if not protected.
